Glasgow born actor James McArdle has received rave reviews for his role in Tony Kushner’s Angels in America at the National Theatre, a play which tells the story of the 1980s AIDS crisis, with The Guardian stating that ‘one of the best moments is terrific James McArdle as the self-conscious Jewish lover’.

Building on this momentum, the 28 year old will star opposite celebrated actress Vanessa Redgrave in a new two-part BBC drama from novelist Patrick Gale, Man in an Orange Shirt, which highlights the contrasting challenges faced by gay male couples during the 1940s/50s and present day. Described by The Evening Standard as ‘the hottest young actor to come out of Scotland since James McAvoy’, McArdle has also had minor roles in the films Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Yann Demange’s historical thriller ’71.
